Another week, another client - and another Nespresso machine. This isn't entirely normal, I don't think, but it's very welcome, and makes me think longingly of what could be in terms of future workplaces!
I chose the Lungo Forte which I presume to mean 'strong, long coffee'. It was quite strong, and I certainly felt its effects for a few hours. The initial nose to it had an unusual reminder of vegetables cooking - something like the smell you get when cooking beans or similar. It was kind of earthy and round but not entirely out of place - and I had to go looking for it. The general flavours that came out of the early aromas and the first taste - and indeed throughout the whole tasting - were rounded, smooth, creamy flavours. So while it was strong, it wasn't strong and sharp by any means, but quite heavy and dense. As an every day drinking coffee it suits quite well though I would probably choose something a little lighter in the afternoon and something a bit sharper in the evening.
It was interesting to note the style of Espresso pod - saucer-shaped rather than a truncated cone. This means, I think, a quicker serving, but possibly the chance for fewer flavours, as the water is in contact with the coffee for a shorter distance. It would be interesting to see whether that made a difference.
